Purpose of award: To offer scholarships to UMWA members and their families.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be miners unemployed from the coal industry with at least five years in classified employment. The spouses or children (below age 25) of eligible unemployed or working miners are also eligible for benefits. Grants are awarded based on the recommendation of one or more panels chosen by UMWA and the Bituminous Coal Association.
