Purpose of award: To honor Herbert Hoover by rewarding students who live up to his ideal of the "uncommon man."
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be juniors in an Iowa high school or homeschool. Students must submit a project proposal and two letters of recommendation. Recipients must attend a weekend program during the summer and are expected to complete the proposed project. Grades, essays and test scores are not considered.

Amount: $750-$5,000.
