Purpose of award: To salute the nation's top elementary, junior high and high school teachers who educate their students about citizenship and American history and traditions.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be current classroom teachers who teach at least half of the school day in a classroom environment, grades K-12. Previous winners from the state or national levels are not eligible. Fellow teachers, supervisors or other interested individuals who are not related to the nominee may send in nominations; no self¬nominations will be accepted.

Amount: $1,000.
