Purpose of award: To promote the academic achievement of students in U.S. public schools and public higher education institutions by providing funds for teachers.
Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be current public school teachers in PreK-12, public school education support professionals or faculty or staff at public higher education institutions. Preference is given to those who work with economically disadvantaged students and NEA members. The grants may be used for materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, software or scholars-in-residence and in some cases professional development. The work should "engage students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepens their knowledge of standards-based subject matter."

Adult students
Minimum GPA: None
Amount: $5,000.
Number of awards: Varies
Deadline: February 1, June 1, October 15.
How to apply: Applications are available online and may be submitted at any time. Applications are reviewed three times each year on February 1, June 1 and October 15.
